The Opportunity
WagWorks runs members’ clubs for city dogs, where daycare, grooming, training and healthcare are bought through memberships and credits held by each dog. As the business grew, its off-the-shelf membership software became a bottleneck. Members booked largely by phone and email, had little visibility of what their membership covered, and staff spent too much time on manual work across disconnected systems.
WagWorks asked us to replace it with a platform built around how the business actually works: dogs rather than people at the centre, multiple clubs, multiple owners per dog, and a CRM, payments provider and vet system that all had to stay in step.
What We Built
We built three connected products. The first is a members’ app for iOS and Android, where owners book services, manage memberships and credits, pay with Apple Pay or Google Pay, keep their dogs’ medical and care records up to date, and receive notifications. The app’s UX was created by a third-party designer, with brand styling by Anatomy, and we turned it into a production app.
The second is a web dashboard for staff, covering approvals, customers and dogs, scheduling and resources, billing, notifications and day-to-day operational views such as check-in, feeding and occupancy. The third is the integration platform and API behind both, with more than 380 endpoints, which holds the business logic.
Scheduling was rebuilt from the ground up. It keeps the rules staff already relied on and adds what WagWorks needed: services, resources and opening hours configured per club, and calendar views by day, week or month.
How It Works
The platform brings eight systems together: HubSpot, Stripe, Lupa vet software, Firebase, SendGrid, Twilio, Slack and WordPress. Its own database is the fast, reliable source the app reads from. Records are kept in step with HubSpot through webhooks and nightly reconciliation, so the marketing and sales teams keep a complete CRM without the app depending on it. Stripe subscriptions and a credit ledger handle memberships, and scheduling understands each club’s resources and capacity.
The app talks to the API through a typed SDK generated from the platform’s OpenAPI specification, so the app, dashboard and backend stay in lockstep as the product evolves. Over-the-air updates let fixes reach members without waiting for an app store release.
Results
WagWorks now owns a platform shaped around its business rather than one it has to work around. Members can book, pay and check their dog’s status at any hour, and customer satisfaction has risen. Staff run the clubs from a single dashboard, saving around 40 hours a week, and scheduling that understands every room, groomer, vet and trainer has lifted resource utilisation by 20%. CRM, billing and vet records stay aligned automatically.
After QA across devices and a user acceptance period with the WagWorks team, the member app launched on the App Store in August 2026.
