The Opportunity

SDC is a 100% employee-owned main contractor with more than 50 years of building behind it, from science parks and laboratories to schools and student accommodation. As the business entered a new chapter, brand agency Anatomy evolved SDC’s identity around a new positioning, “Building progress”, aimed at clients, architectural partners and the next generation of talent.

We partnered with Anatomy to bring that brand to life online. SDC needed a website that could do justice to the scale and range of its portfolio, make its employee-ownership story easy to find, and be simple for the in-house team to keep up to date.

What We Built

We built a bespoke WordPress website, turning Anatomy’s designs into a library of 22 flexible page sections. These include an animated homepage banner, distinctive line-pattern page headers, a scrollable company timeline, filterable team headshots and downloadable reports. Projects, news, people and careers each have their own templates, so the team can publish a new case study, vacancy or story without touching the layout.

Every project carries its value, sector, client, location and team. Together they power a filterable portfolio with grid and list views, and related-project journeys between case studies.

Mapping 50 Years of Work

After launch, we went on to tell the full breadth of SDC’s track record. Most of its projects don’t need a full case study, so we added a simple project listing that holds just the location, value, client and sector. Together with the case studies, these power an interactive map that groups nearby projects and opens each one in a click.

Visitors can explore SDC’s work geographically, filter by client, sector, location or development, and switch between map and list views. On mobile, the map has its own filter controls. The result is a portfolio that shows not only what SDC builds but where, and for whom: 257 projects for 93 clients, all kept up to date by SDC’s own team.

Results

Since launch, the new website has delivered a 48% increase in traffic and a 40% increase in dwell time.

SDC’s team now manages projects, news, people and vacancies in one place through the CMS. Every project they add appears on the clients map automatically, so the portfolio grows with the business.
