A new website for a city of two identities
The City of London exists as both a global financial powerhouse and the historic birthplace of the capital – a place of culture, heritage, commerce and creativity. IXN was tasked with building a single digital platform capable of unifying these two identities and redefining how the Square Mile is experienced by visitors, residents and international audiences.
Our role was clear: build a website that transformed perception, enabled exploration and positioned the City as a destination in its own right.
We delivered a modern, future-proof platform that empowers the City to tell its evolving story while driving real-world engagement and economic value.
Built for discovery
To help users navigate the Square Mile as a destination, we created bespoke functionality that turns digital exploration into real-world experience:
- Directory with interactive map
A rich, location-based directory enabling users to discover places, venues, culture and experiences visually and intuitively. - Advanced event search & bespoke calendar
A tailored event system allowing users to filter, explore and plan visits through a custom-built calendar experience.
The platform was built mobile-first to support visitors on-the-go, ensuring a seamless and engaging experience across desktop, tablet and mobile. From discovering an event to navigating the City streets, the experience remains fast, accessible and intuitive.
Performance that delivers real-world impact
The website is not just a storytelling platform – it is a measurable engine for economic and visitor growth. Through data-led design and conversion-focused development, IXN created a high-performing digital product that directly contributes to the City’s visitor economy.
Measurable success in year one:
- £6.3m economic benefit delivered
- 400,000 sessions annually
- 6.5% conversion rate
- 63,000 additional visitors to the City
These results demonstrate the platform’s ability to influence behaviour, increase footfall and reinforce the City of London as a vibrant cultural destination.
